What’s Been Said and Done in Cloud This Week (November 26) 1

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the public preview of Amazon Linux 2022 (AL2022), based on Red Hat’s community Linux, Fedora.

With re:Invent just around the corner, expect plenty of AWS news; good, bad or indifferent. This, however, has been quietly noted in a blog post without much fanfare. Which is a shame, because this certainly has interesting implications with regard to developing and running cloud applications.

The main features of the new Amazon Linux 2022 will be stability and security. With Fedora as its upstream, users will be able to benefit from updated language runtimes among other software features as part of quarterly releases. The AL2022 will also have SELinux enabled and enforced by default, enabling customers to improve security postures, reduce operational overheads, and comply with common industry standards.
